failed to reach a compromise on a peace deal to end the war in
Ukraine
, after a five-hour meeting between President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump’s special envoy.
The talks, which were held in the Kremlin until midnight Tuesday (2/12), were attended by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Witkoff.
“No compromise has been found yet,” said Putin’s foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov.

“There is still a lot of work to be done,” he added, quoted by Reuters.
According to Ushakov, Putin at the meeting reacted negatively to some of the proposed US proposals.However, he confirmed that the US and Russia had discussed “territorial issues”, which refers to Russia’s claim to the entire Donbas region in Ukraine.
Ukraine controls at least 5,000 square km of territory, which Russia claims as its own.However, almost all countries recognize Donbas as part of Ukraine.
“Some of the US proposals seem more or less acceptable, but need to be discussed. Some of the formulations that have been proposed do not suit us, which means this work will continue,” he said.
He also said that a meeting between Putin and Trump was not planned in the near future.Putin is said to have sent a series of “important signals” and greetings to Trump, but both sides agreed not to reveal the details to the media.
Previously, the US and Russia were reported to have drawn up a plan to end the war in Ukraine, in a 28-point peace proposal.The proposal was drafted by US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, with input from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
The contents of the draft include a statement that Ukraine’s sovereignty will be confirmed.
Then, a comprehensive non-aggression agreement will be agreed between Russia, Ukraine and Europe.All ambiguities that have occurred over the last 30 years are said to be considered resolved.
Furthermore, guarantees that Russia will not attack its neighbors, and NATO will not expand further.

Furthermore, Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk will be recognized as de facto Russian territory, including by the US.Kherson and Zaporizhzhia will be frozen along the line of contact, which means there is de facto recognition of the line.
Meanwhile, Russia will hand over other areas it controls outside the five areas mentioned.
The territory of Donetsk Oblast must be cleared of troops and will be considered a demilitarized buffer zone.
Ukraine must hold elections within 100 days.
All parties involved in the conflict will receive full amnesty for actions during the war and agree not to file future claims or complaints.
